Pattern making on the mannequin

For this task, I found it a lot easier than, I did when I was trying to follow the pattern book and this was because I was actually able to see how the pattern would flow and how the cut would look on an actual body and I feel that because of this process I have a better understanding for pattern cutting and how each pattern block fits on the body. I really enjoyed this as I got to learn a new skill i didn't have before and it was a straightforward and easy process I will be using this form of pattern cutting more often it's a lot easier for me to understand and it means I waste less calico when trying to make my Toiles.

Pattern making on the mannequin process

I started off by cutting half a meter of fabric and pinning it to the mannequin I was then directed to get a black pen/pencil and mark where I wanted the collar to be after doing that I started to in the darts. Once I was happy with the darts placements I penciled them in so that I know where they go once i make the actual garment.

Adding the darts why did I make this choice ?

At first, I wasn't going to add darts because I wanted to try to make a hanfu as historically accurate as possible however I didn't really like how it fit on my model and the mannequin so after a conversation with a ilona(a tutor) she guided me on where I should place the darts and how it would alter my design slightly. However, when I did moe research into modernised hanfu's I found that they actually accentuate the female form so I took inspiration from the modern designs and added the darts.

Was this pattern successful?

Yes this pattern piece was successful because it fit the way it was supposed to and it also sculpted the body of the mannequin nicely whilst still maintaining the flowy ethereal look and I'm very happy with that so i think that this pattern piece was a lot more successful than the first one.
